Living in Palm Jumeirah
The palm-shaped island off Dubai’s coast, with beach villas on the fronds and apartments along the trunk. Dubai’s best-known waterfront address.

History
Nakheel began building Palm Jumeirah in 2001, reclaiming the island from the sea in the shape of a palm tree: a trunk, 16 fronds and a crescent that acts as a breakwater.
The first homes were handed over in 2006 and around 500 families were living there by late 2007. Atlantis The Palm opened on the crescent in 2008 and the Palm Monorail in 2009. About 25,000 people lived on the island by 2022, alongside around 30 hotels.
What it’s like to live here
Apartments line the trunk, most with beach access, while the fronds are given over to villas with their own stretch of sand. The crescent is mainly resort hotels. It feels like a holiday address, with beach clubs, The Pointe and Golden Mile Galleria for dining and shopping.
Who it suits
Families and couples who want beachfront living, and buyers looking for a prime long-term asset. Investors like it for capital growth and strong demand for holiday lets.
Getting around
The Palm Monorail runs along the trunk and links to the Dubai Tram and Metro. Access by road is via Sheikh Zayed Road, and Dubai International Airport is about 30 minutes away.
Schools, healthcare and shopping
Jumeirah International Nurseries and Blossom Nursery are on the island, and Regent International School (FS1 to Year 13) is nearby.
Clinics include Medcare Medical Centre, Dubai London Clinic and Al Das Medical Clinic. Palm Jumeirah Mall (formerly Nakheel Mall), Golden Mile Galleria, The Pointe and Atlantis, with Aquaventure Waterpark and the Lost Chambers Aquarium, are all on the island.
